Our best practices with instructions
We dedicate the first part of our series "We solve your network issues" to a not so interesting topic at the first sight. However, as you see below, this is definitely not the case.
Today, we look at instructions for our products, such as fiber optic boxes and data cabinets.
Already 3 years ago, we have switched from printed manuals to QR codes, which are located on our products and with the help of which you can display the manuals on your smart device. Today, we print the instructions only on request and in some countries where this is not legally possible.
Efforts to help nature, people and business economics
One of the reasons why we started with the QR codes was the effort to help our environment, reduce a huge amount of paper and thus save costs. And we are talking about the amount of 10 000 EUR per year. This plays an important role. Especially for cheaper products, such as fiber outlets, the price of printing the manual can be calculated as a few percent of their total sales price.
In addition, an installer does the same thing over and over again. And if each product included the printed manual, many of them would end up in a trash and it would be a completely uneconomical thing.
The QR code label remains part of the product forever, which is another big advantage. So if anyone wants to return to the already installed product, he can reload the instructions on the screen of his smart device. The already installed product can also be accessed by someone who has not installed it and the instructions placed in this way can be used to familiarize with the product. This is useful in the process of constantly maintaining and upgrading your optic networks.
The instructions include multimedia content
A huge advantage is the fact that this guide is digital and it is therefore possible to insert more multimedia content into it. Manuals are often black and white, unreadable, ugly, suffer from printer errors, save on color,... Our manuals are full of color and installation examples, so you can directly see what the installation itself should look like. Links to our installation videos in our YouTube channel are another benefit.
The instructions are always up to date
Another great advantage is that the instructions themselves under the QR code can be developed and further improved. And everyone who bought the product always has access to the latest version. Our partners asked us several times in the past to add instructions. Immediately after our update, all their technicians could download this improved manual. But not only they, but all users of the product.
The products have separate QR codes for each language. This also eliminates the problem of a number of instructions, where there is a mix of languages in one document.
If necessary, the instructions can be printed
Of course, you need Internet and data to view the instructions somewhere outside. If it is not possible, you must print the instructions in advance and prepare for the installation. So when a construction coordinator sends his technician to places where there is no internet and the technician does not know the product, it is definitely a good idea to print the instructions. Even for these cases, we can supply the instructions in printed form on request. This is a part of our individual approach and customization in general, which we will definitely talk about in other parts of the series.
In the last 3 years we had to solve perhaps only difficulties of involving a few people who generally worked harder with modern technologies. Otherwise, we have positive responses from all the countries where we operate. We ourselves are convinced that when you open our instructions, you must feel the progress. The same progress as in FTTx solutions.
In any case, you can get to know our products and their installation at trainings we organize. But we will talk about it in one of the next episodes.
